Trey Songz, the Prince of R&B, appeared at the event to receive the 2008 Virginia Icon Trailblazer Award. This phenomenal vocal talent, songwriter, and Petersburg, Virginia native performed from his new hit album.

Prince of R&B Trey Songz

Virginia Icon is a singing competition conducted annually. Talented middle and high school students from all over Virginia audition for a few coveted spots to compete for the title of Virginia's Icon and a chance for discovery and recognition beyond the Commonwealth's borders.

Congratulations to the 2008 winners!

First Place went to Northern Virginia's Julia Braxton!

Julia Braxton

Julia Braxton sang, "Your Daddy's Son." Julia is a 14-year-old high school freshman who loves the performing arts. She has sang and acted in musical theatre since the second grade and has had lead and supporting roles in school, community and professional plays such as Give My Regards to Broadway, A Christmas Carol, and The Ron Brown Project.

Second Place went to Richmond's Jessica Fox!

Jessica sang, "I Can't Make You Love Me." Jessica has been singing, mostly in church, since she was old enough to talk. Jessica has also studied classical and opera music, and her lifetime goal is to learn how to play as many instruments as possible.

Third Place went to Richmond's Ricky Ayala!

Ricky Ayala

Ricky Ayala sang the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." Ricky is 13 years old and has been performing as a solo vocalist since the age of 5, including events in Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles, and four times at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York.
